John Fontes's Fundraising Page
My name is John I am 14 and I have decided to dedicate my summer again to raising awareness for Duchene muscular Dystrophy. Last summer I biked across America 3810 miles for Duchene Muscular Dystrophy. On June 24th I got on a plane and flew to San Francisco, where the journey began. The ride ended in Point Pleasant, NJ on August 28th. Although money is a key factor when in search for a cure, awareness in itself has a bigger impact. What better way to catch worldwide attention then by sending a group of dedicated teenagers across America on bikes for a completely selfless cause. Each day was a struggle, but we pulled through, because we were riding for those who cannot. If these boys live life accepting the constant struggles that are being thrown at them, then so can we. Each morning we would wake up at 6 am and ride about 60-100 miles, depending how hard the terrain was that day. We rode over mountains, flats, up rolling hills, down highways, and bike trails. Some days the heat was scorching, or it was raining; we finished each day with a sense of accomplishment never felt before. We actually felt like we were helping and making a difference. We Jet riders were the hope these families involved with DMD needed. In the end, we have gotten 3,800 miles to a cure.
It is my honor to do this ride for those that can't. I am doing this ride to help raise awareness of this disease, and hopefully help raise the money to help with finding a cure. I would also like to dedicate my ride to my twin cousins that live with Duchene Muscular Dystrophy and also my late Uncle Joao
