I migrated to the U.S. at age 15 from Trinidad, West Indies, went to high school in Boston and graduated from Marion Umana Tech at the age of 18. I then enlisted into the U.S. Navy where I met my beautiful wife of 25 years Brenda during one of my tour of duty in San Diego. I currently have a Brother living in Boston and a Sister living in Rhode Island. My mother and Grandmother lives in Virginia. My children are 21 and 24 and I have a three-year-old granddaughter. I enjoy doing things that involve the outdoors and will give me a good workout. In the off-season I workout in the gym five to six times a week and during the season I ride six days a week. I enjoy playing basketball even though I am really not good at it. I also enjoy watching sports on TV. If I am not doing any of the above, you can find me enjoying a nice western movie, or out in the yard doing some yard work.
To date the only attempt that I have ever made at a endurance event was back in the 1980s. I competed in a team triathlon at the Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado which was one half the distance of the famous Iron Man Triathlon. I got drafted into becoming a member of Team 2 Cure HD by the smooth-talking Renato two days after I met him. He was so upbeat and positive about the entire experience that I just said yes on the spot. All of my friends, including our RAAM team manager, Butch Martin, and my family, thought that I was insane. My mother even tried to explain the aging process to me, telling me that all the bike riding in the world would not make me any younger as she was convinced that I was only doing this to try and defeat my biological clock. But after a few weeks of working on them they were finally convinced. I competed in many races during my younger days while in the Navy and in college. I have also participated in some biathlons. Currently I ride for the physical and mental enjoyment I get out of pushing my body to the extreme. This event will be a great challenge. It's also a great privilege for me to participate in RAAM to help my friends, and the many other families suffering from HD.
