Dear Friends and Family, I'm old! And I'm running! And you can help me raise money for a good cause!
On April 12th, I will turn 40. On April 19th, I will run the Boston Marathon. I want to mark both occasions by HAVING A PARTY! (and raising funds and awareness for Citizen Schools, which is getting quite old itself! I've worked there since we launched it in 1995)
I will be joined in the marathon by general good guy (and brother of Theo) Paul Epstein and BURGERMAN. (Who’s BURGERMAN? He’s Sam Novey, one of my summer interns, who will run the marathon in a burger suit as a way of raising money for Citizen Schools. See it to believe it at http://www.burgermanmarathon.com.)
Paul and I invite you to our marathon party. Party Details: Monday, April 12, 6-9 PM, The Bleacher Bar, 82A Landsdowne Street; Guests include: Theo Epstein, GM Red Sox, WEEI's Ron Bradford & John Meterparel, NESN's Jayme Parker, Boston Blazers Daryl Veltman and Paul Dawson and others … Win exciting Red Sox and other sports prizes, suggested tax deductible donation $15 at the door
If you can’t make it to the party but want to support Citizen Schools: http://www.firstgiving.com/johnwerner. Interesting donation amounts welcomed, from 26.2 to 40 to a googol. Help Citizen Schools continue to do important work.
Thanks so much for your support
Be PASSIONATE, John Werner
* Citizen Schools (www.citizenschools.org) is a nonprofit organization that partners with middle schools to expand the learning day for low-income children across the country. I helped found Citizen Schools 15 years ago (yes, another birthday!). We now serve 4,400 students annually and engage 3,500 volunteers in 20 cities in 7 states nationwide. We are at the forefront of a movement to educate children, strengthen communities, and increase access to the American Dream. Your generosity enables Citizen Schools to expand educational opportunity and restore the promise of the American Dream. We shift the life trajectories of low-income students and put them on a path toward success in school and positions of leadership in their careers and communities.
I am so proud of the progress Citizen Schools is making in promoting the idea of “second-shift” educators; especially in the fields of science and technology your help can make a big impact! The passion of America’s citizens is the greatest untapped resource!
Thanks so much for your consideration.
