Hello Friends and Family,
Last Summer, for some bizarre reason some friends and I decided to sign up for the first ever NYC Ironman, which is to be held on August 11, 2012. For those of you who do not know, the Ironman consists of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, and a marathon. The most recent Sprint Tri race that I did in 2010 consisted of a 1/4 mi swim, 12 mi bike, & a 5k run. Needless to say, a full Ironman is going to be a tremendous challenge for me. But I am training with a great group of motivated individulals who offer much support, enthusiasm, & energy during our weekend training sessions. More importantly, I will be swimming, biking, running (& walking) to raise money for a very worthwhile cause, COVENANT HOUSE.
Covenant House was founded 38 years ago with the sole mission to help homeless kids in NYC. Today, they have facilities in 21 cities throughout the United States, Canada, and Central America. I recently had the opportunity to visit their Newark location to meet the staff, volunteers, and some of the residents. During my visit , I came to realize that each of these facilities are not just shelters. But much like our own homes, they are filled with all the love, caring, and those vital everyday resources needed to help any young person become successful.
I know these are difficult times, but as you might imagine, they are even more difficult for those who are less fortunate. I would greatly appreciate any contribution that you could make towards my fundraising efforts, and I will do my best to cross the finish line on Aug 11.
Thanks so much,
John
