Dear Friends,
For years I heard about Lyme disease, but I never quite understood what it was. January 5th 2009, was the day that I was diagnosed.
I am relieved that the physical aspect of this disease did not spread to my family, or anyone else I was in contact with. However, the emotions attached to it, had an effect on those closest to me. I was no longer the do it all wife, mother, mortgage banker and friend. I was lethargic, and could barely get out of bed in the morning. What used to take me minutes to do, took much longer. I never realized how much in my life I took for granted. From putting on my 2 year old sons shoes, to brushing my daughter’s long blonde hair- it was exhausting.
Although times are tough they are more difficult for those affected by Lyme and its co-infections.
This is a dreadful and debilitating disease which needs funding and awareness.
On May 27th, 2009 – They removed the Midline IV from my arm and although the disease is still in me, my symptoms have subsided. Life as I knew it will never be the same. I still live with fear that it will come back at anytime.
Turn the Corner is dedicated to the support of research, education, awareness and innovative treatments for Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases. Please help us support this organization.
Thank you for being here for my family and me during this difficult time. Your support and donations of any size will be greatly appreciated!
Lisa Daniel
PS – Thank you to my dear friend David Plotkin who helped me put my experience into words.
