Nine years ago, I started the Santa Speedo Run (www.santaspeedorun.com) with 4 buddies. It began as a practical joke as we thought it would be funny to run down Newbury Street in Santa hats and Speedos carrying a boom box with a CD of the Muppets singing Christmas Carols. People's reactions were overwhelmingly positive and so I decided to turn this "practical joke" into a charity event.
Over the past 9 years, the run has grown to have over 400 runners, both men and women, and has raised over $240,000. We run for a different Boston charity each year with the goal of benefiting children. This year, we'll be running for Cradles to Crayons (www.cradlestocrayons.org), an organization aimed at providing, free of charge, low-income and homeless children from birth to pre-teen the basic essentials they need to be safe, warm, ready to learn, and valued.
I ask each runner to raise at least $250 in donations in order to participate, but I'm personally setting a goal to raise $2500. I realize that we are in a trying economic period, but the kids that benefit from this program still have needs each and every day. Anything you can do to support this event would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thank you
Jon
