During this past year, 120 sworn members of Law Enforcement from all over the United States have made the ultimate sacrifice. This number includes one of our own, Trooper David Lane - Shield #4705. On November 4, 2009, Trooper Lane was killed in a tragic automobile accident while on patrol in the Town of Catskill. He served with the New York State Police for 4 years. Although I didn’t know David personally, myself and members of the Police Unity Tour will be riding in his honor and to keep his memory alive.
This will be my 3rd year riding with the Western New York Team. Our team is made up of members of the Amherst Police Department and the New York State Police. On May 9th, 2010, we will be joining Chapter I in East Hanover, New Jersey to begin our 4 day journey. We will travel approximately 320 miles making stops in Edison, NJ, Wilmington, DE, Annapolis, MD and then continue on to the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, D.C.
The primary purpose of the Police Unity Tour is to bring about public awareness of Law Enforcement Officers who have died in the line of duty. The secondary purpose is to raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial and Museum. For those of you who donated in the past, I would like to thank you and also ask that you continue to show your support.
