2011-2012 Fundraising Update:
We've set a new fundraising goal since in July 2011, we surpassed our original goal of raising $25,000 to help area cancer-patients by June 2014! Our new goal is to reach $50,000 raised by 2014!
A new facet of our campaign added last year proved to be one of the key reasons our group was able to reach our original fundraising goal early; doubling the funds we had raised to date! It was the request for local business support!
We believe that if the community comes together, one business and one school after another might not think they matter; but helping together adds up to lots of vital help for cancer-patients!
AtlanticCare was the first to help; donating to our 2010-2011 Trick-or-Treat for S.J.C.F. campaign.
The second business to help was the amazing Shore Beauty School who chose the South Jersey Cancer Fund to benefit from their Summer of 2011 Runway Hair Show at the Walk in Atlantic City. The School found out about the Kids for South Jersey Cancer Fund online and contacted us to see if they could help us meet our goal. They graciously allowed some of our members to be a part of their show!
The K.S.J.C.F. is seeking businesses willing to help.
This is our 4th year sending letters to over 65 school districts. We've asked them to do Staff and/or Student Dress Down Days for the Cause! We continue to expand the number of leaders we reach by sending letters to Superintendents, Boards of Education, P.T.A.s, Service Clubs, & Education Associations.
**See below for our "Honor Roll of School Districts"; giving them recognition for participating!
We're trying to expand our membership to include youth from high schools all over the South Jersey Region. We have some creative ideas of how to go about this using Social Media! Keep your eyes on YouTube and Cats for a Cause!
We currently have youth leadership teams of members who attend:
Atlantic City High School, Holy Spirit High School, Absegami High School, Saint Augustine Prep, and A.C.I.T.
(These groups of youth will soon be personally approaching school leadership and service clubs for support if they haven't already done so!)
Youth who wish to be on a leadership team for their High School in the Region need only email us at KSJCF@aol.com and we'll send you info. to get started!
Progress: School District Letter-Writing Campaign 2011-2012
Superintendent, Dr. Annette Giaquinto of Gold Level Supporter,Galloway Township Public Schools was the first Educational Leader in the region this year to report her district had scheduled a Staff Dress Down Day for March 2012!
A.C.H.S. scheduled a district-wide dress down for 1/27/12!

Our Group's History of Fundraising:
Over the years, along with our Letter-Writing Campaigns, our youth group has done a variety of fundraising including: a Breakfast/Car Wash/Bake Sale at the Elks; the running of Carnival Games at our town's Family Fun Day, Beach Cleanups on Behalf of our Mother organization; our participation in the Stephanie Burke Beach Run and the Leprechaun Leap, our participation in Shore Beauty School's Beauty by the Shore Runway Hair Show 2011, our providing of Face Painting, Hair-Spraying, and Nail-Painting at Seafood Fest and for two summers at the Elks Bayfest.
Last year, we did our first ever "Trick -or-Treat for South Jersey Cancer Fund!" This year we called it "Dress Up" for S.J.C.F. where businesses allowed staff to wear fun garb on Halloween for a donation.
"Chill out for South Jersey Cancer Fund was launched this summer; and we granted kids Iced Tea/ Lemonade Drink Mix to run their own stands for the cause.
This idea has expanded to include schools; the first of which is the Leeds Avenue School in Pleasantville whose Student Council ran Stands on January 25th, 26th, & 27th. We provided some drink mix and a lend of our coolers!
Our youth group is a member of the Brigantine Youth Alliance.

Our Belief:
It's time to help South Jersey Cancer Fund! After reading in the local papers in May of 2008, about the South Jersey Cancer Fund freezing their services due to a lack of funding at the time, we realized that it was time to help.
We believe that the services this organization provides to adults with cancer in South Jersey are vital! We know from experience that a little help can go a long way. ( If you don't believe we can reach such a lofty goal; look at what we have accomplished to help Kids with Cancer through our other fundraising effort: We started helping out the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation over seven years ago, and have been able to raise over$30,000! See our other fundraising web page at: www.alexslemonade.org/mypage/5115 )
We know that adults with cancer have it hard, too. Our Poppy was recently very ill with a rare sickness. It might have had an underlying cancer, but no one knows for sure. What we do know from this is that being sick is a very hard thing. People who are ill need help. Our Poppy passed away at the very young age of 66. He was a very caring person and we know he would be happy that we want to help.
Kids do care. Many of us have had first-hand experience with loved ones being ill. We watch them and feel like we wish that we could make things better for them. We know a lot of kids want to help. We hope adults can help too, by donating to this cause!
We have decided to ask for help from other kids. We want to get kids together to do fundraising for this cause. We know that a firstgiving web site such as this is a good place to start to get the word out. We want to let people know about South Jersey Cancer Fund; what the organization does to help and why it is urgent that we help them get funds to continue their valuable work. Every little bit of help each person can give adds up to a lot of help for those in need!
Keep on checking back to this Firstgiving site for information on upcoming fundraisers which we will be planning for the organization.
Sincerely,
Joseph Mandes,
Founder of Kids for South Jersey Cancer Fund
& Michael Mandes, Co-Leader
