CARING FOR CARCINOID FOUNDATION INC

Bank of America Chicago Marathon Chicago,  Illinois

The 2009 Chicago Marathon

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page!

Over the past three years Josh and I have raised money for the Caring For Carcinoid Foundation through this fundraising page and the message was always posted by him. This year I really wanted to share what it means to me to have my big brother run, not just one, but THREE marathons in my honor.

It was just over three years ago now that I was diagnosed with Carcinoid Cancer. Like many other patients with this disease, I went a long time before receiving my correct diagnosis. In the 7 years it took to get my diagnosis, my primary tumor had metastasized from my small intestine to my liver. I’ve endured 8 rounds of intensive chemotherapy, experimental radiation treatments, and surgery to remove my primary tumor. Yet my cancer still remains. Unfortunately, this is the same story that many Carcinoid patients could share with you.

I think when we are diagnosed with cancer many people want to help but they don’t know how or what to do to show their support. It didn’t take long for Josh to find the CFCF Chicago Marathon team. Josh is an avid marathon runner, completing 8 marathons to date. This was the perfect way for him to support me, and for me to find inspiration through him. Just the act of training for a marathon takes hard work and dedication. Even when you’re challenged by the elements, you just keep going. You know that each step takes you one step closer to your goal. It’s the perfect model for how to find a cure for cancer and the inspiration for how to fight this disease. As Jimmy Valvano said, “Don’t give up. Don’t ever give up.”

The Caring for Carcinoid Foundation is also dedicated to finding a cure for this disease. Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support our fundraising efforts. 100% of the donation goes directly to research, and is tax deductible as the Caring for Carcinoid Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
