Some of my greatest memories are on the Cape. One of my favorite times was always the Falmouth Road Race as a kid. My family and I would set up a snack stand up the hill from the finish line. We sold everything from cookies and sandwiches to chowdah and lemonade. As the runners cooled down after the long race they would come by and we'd sell all of our treats to fill our piggie banks. ;) As kids we always wished that someday we would be big enough to put the bunny ears on our sneakers and run the race too.
These past couple of summers we've finally got that itch. Chris, Jordan, and I all kept saying to ourselves that we should run but were all too lazy to actually sign up. Well...this year is the year...whether its the first of many or our first and last in one. To make this race extra special we decided to run for a cause and raise money to help others. We chose "Run for Cover" which supports the Melanoma Foundation of New England. It is one that is near and dear to our hearts as well as our family and friends, which gives it extra meaning.
Melanoma is just one of the forms of cancers that is affecting the world today but we hope our small part will bring big changes. We have all been affected by cancer in some way--we've lost grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; we've had loved ones survive and others who are still battling with cancer. This is a very worthy cause and we need you to help us!
The Falmouth Road Race is 7 1/2 miles along the seacoast of Cape Cod from Woods Hole to Falmouth. The race is taking place Sunday August 10th 2008. So throw on some SPF and come cheer us on!!

Raising Awareness about Melanoma
The Melanoma Foundation of New England, formerly the Massachusetts Melanoma Foundation, was established in 1999 to combat the rising rate of melanoma and melanoma deaths. Some important facts about melanoma and other skin cancers include:
- Skin cancer is the most common kind of cancer in the United States today.
- 1.3 million people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with skin cancer this year.
- Melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer, caused 7,400 deaths in the U.S. in 2001.
- In the last twenty years, the rate of melanoma has doubled in the U.S. and continues to rise.
- If melanoma is detected early it is usually curable.
- Most skin cancers and most skin cancer-related deaths are potentially preventable with lifestyle changes.
