For those who know me, know I am a dedicated mother to three wonderful young men. Being a single mother, I know what it is like to balance a career, children, children's school work, and scouting efforts, but I am also actively serving our country in the United States Air Force Reserves. Add into the mix a training schedule that has me preparing for a new and amazing adventure.....
In January of 2014, I will be running the Walt Disney World® Half Marathon as part of the Run GKTW Team with Karen Bonk, in honor of our 40th birthdays and in testimony of her oldest son, Patrick, who has received time as a wish child, through a different organization, at the GKTW village. Additionally, I am dedicating this run to my father, who passed in August 2012, and my friend, David, who died May 8th, 2013, of cancer. David is an inspiration in being a person who did everything in life he wanted to accomplish prior to getting sick. My goal is to raise $3,500 for Give Kids The World, a non-profit that exists solely to fulfill the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. These deserving families are treated to weeklong fantasy vacations to Central Florida where accommodations, attraction tickets, entertainment, meals and more are all provided at no cost. However, the actual cost per family of four to spend a week at the village is about $5000.
My training partner is primarily my 9 year old son who has Poland's Syndrome and loves to run. He loves to make people smile. My children are all supportive of this adventure, and are good friends with Patrick and his brothers. Although, I have found great support from all three of my children, my mom and many friends, including the friends I have met through the running community, have been extremely supportive. I am very grateful to all of them.
I am especially grateful to Corina Smith, who has dedicated her own assistance to this fundraiser by offering an amazing raffle option to help raise funds for Give Kids the World. A simple $2 donation per ticket, or 3 for a $5 donation, labeled "Running for Life Raffle", will enter you into the raffle for a garmin, or a $100 gift card. Details are in my facebook event page. This event has ended. Thank you to Corina for offering this opportunity and thank you to Candace Mooney who donated it back, allowing Tori Touroney to win!!!!!
Currently Jennifer Yount is doing photography sessions for donations to my efforts!
A special thank you to my former high school classmates Nauni and Renee who have made a significant contribution to help me on this path! Thank you everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
