Coppenraths race for Autism
Thank you to all the supporters of Pete's Boston Marathon run - we reached and passed the $5000 minimum. Pete completed his first and he says, only marathon in 6h11m37s on a brutally hot day. He went in with not enough training and a sore hamstring and back. I am very proud of him being conservative with his efforts in order to finish. Go Pete!
I'm preparing for my first 1/2 ironman race in June which I am jointly fundraising for. So far training is going well and my goal is just completion. I expect to finish in 7 hours if not more. If it turns out to be less then even better. I find setting low goals for your first of anything is better. So why are we doing this you may or may not ask?
As most of you are aware our daughter Helen has Autism and has been a student at Nashoba Learning Group since she was 4 years old. She is now 8 (I know I can't believe it). They have made some great progress with her. Recently we signed up Helen to sing and dance in a musical with her sister. Her lead teacher Kerin agreed to attend all the practices and plays to support Helen in her role. That's dedication!
Helen and her sister, Hana, have not been able to play much together without things falling apart and Helen becoming aggressive. Helen's clinical director, Eileen, helped us recruit within the school for therapists to fill home therapy hours. Ever since these wonderful NLG teachers have been in our home working to improve Helen's relationship with Hana we have seen moments like these www.youtube.com/watch
Pete and I love Nashoba Learning Group for all they have done for Helen and her family and know they will do so much more not only for her but for many others. Check out their page to learn more about them. http://www.nashobalearninggroup.org/ By the way 2 of the teachers from NLG also completed the Boston Marathon this year in support of the school. They are a bit short in their fundraising goals so the better we do the more we can support the bottom line.
To show your support make a donation if you can.
Sincerely Grateful,
Julie & Pete
