On 14 November 2005, we were completely unprepared for what Jonathan would bring to our family. We had no idea that he would have Down syndrome or a heart defect. We had no education in terms of special needs and were terrified.
So many people mentioned the Bell Center that we contacted them while we were still in the hospital. Betty Bell came to the NICU and visited us next to Jonathan's crib. She listened to us, answered our questions, and gave us some of the first rays of hope to which we would cling for months. When we got home, Betty and one of the physical therapists, Holley, came to our home. They initiated us into the Bell Center by making an ornament with Jonathan's little footprint and then by fitting him with his first pair of "biker shorts" that would help with the muscle tone development in his hips. Shortly thereafter, Carter Wells and Josh Reidinger asked us if they could run for Jonathan in the Mercedes Marathon - we were so touched.
Thus began our relationship with the Bell Center. Betty Bell and her staff have carried us through the most difficult year we have yet to encounter. Many times we would come to therapy and be ministered to just as much as Jonathan was. We found such encouragement and love here.
We have learned so much about people with special needs in the last year. Yes, Jonathan has special needs, but frankly, so do we all - we just happen to know what his are.:) The Bell Center has been critical in our healing and in our education. Please help us support them by contributing financially.
We have a team running in the Mercedes Marathon on Sunday, 11 February 2007, again this year in honor of Jonathan. It is special because this year it is composed entirely of our family - Jamie, Julie, Pops (Jim Warren), and Aunt Betsy (Julie's sister). Jackson will be unable to run, but will be rooting for us all the way. Please pray for us as we train - that we would prepare adequately, be healthy, and survive!
Thank you in advance for your support.
Jamie, Julie, Jackson, and Jonathan Warren
