My sister and best friend, Terri Mika passed away almost a year ago on May 9th after a 7 year battle from breast cancer.
Just a short 5 weeks later I found out that I had Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer.
Now I could curl up in and cry.... OR I could STAND UP AND FIGHT....... And that is what I have chosen to do. I want to bring the attention and awareness to this type of cancer for everyone to hear.
I WANT PEOPLE TO ASSOCIATE THE COLOR TEAL WITH OVARIAN CANCER!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm really excited to be walking in this walk. After participating in 10 breast cancer walks, 5 of which were long distance walks it feels good to be doing this for me and all of the other women like me. Not enough is known about Ovarian Cancer, the warning signs and early detection. I'm hoping this walk and the funds raised can help change that.

Ovarian cancer is the leading cause of death among gynecologic cancers. In over 75% of cases, it is not detected until it has already progressed to an advanced stage. This year alone, about 22,000 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer and over 15,000 women will die. Research is needed, especially in the realm of early detection and treatment of recurrent disease.
Every donation, no matter how big or small, is greatly appreciated and makes a difference.
