Kalima Rose's Fundraising Page
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! As director of the PolicyLink Louisiana Initiative, I'm excited to help raise new money for the incredible organizations dedicated to assisting Louisiana residents still trying to recover.
Much has been accomplished since the hurricanes, floods, and levee breaches wreaked unprecedented damage on New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. The growth of nonprofit and advocacy organizations has been incredible and they have been able to help many of the hardest hit communities work their way towards recovery. These organizations are supporting many of the folks struggling the hardest to return: seniors, people with disabilities, residents of heavily flooded African American communities, and others residing in rural Native American or in river and bayou areas.
These organizations and PolicyLink have partnered over the last four years to organize for equity and steer recovery resources to the needs of their constituents. In that time, the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation has been on the front lines, distributing the funds contributed by Americans in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Yet, so much work still lies ahead. With the crisis in the housing market and a weakened economic climate, recovery efforts are made increasingly difficult – particularly for those in low-income communities and the many communities of color where housing recovery is languishing.
On any given block, you'll see signs of hope (a house rebuilt) and, unfortunately, signs of despair (a house abandoned). We need your help to ensure that -- in the not so distant future -- despair and abandonment will merely be bad memories of times past.
Donating through this website is simple, fast, and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts, which will help LDRF continue to fund local equity-driven nonprofits. We will be raising funds until November 28.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to others who might want to donate, too!
In solidarity,
Kalima
