Family and friends lost an amazing wife, mother, sister, daughter and dear friend when Judith Brooke-Green passed away on Monday, October 3, 2011. Surrounded by family, she succumbed to pancreatic cancer. Judy lived life to the fullest and was a constant source of strength and courage to all around her.
Judy was born in Phoenix AZ, on April 16, 1951 to Robert and Francis Wilcox. She graduated from Central High School in 1969, and from Arizona State University in 1973, with a BS in German. She spent her Senior year in high school in Germany as an exchange student through the International Christian Youth Exchange.
Judy studied in Germany the summer after her junior year in college which included her first experience as a host for the Olympics that were held in Munich in 1972. This led to a long time association with the Olympic games. Her fluency in German, French, Spanish and Italian, made her invaluable as a host at 7 Olympic games; Munich, Lake Placid, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Salt Lake, Turin, and most recently Vancouver, the last three as personal assistant to Renee Fasel, President of the International Ice Hockey Federation.
Judy began her professional career as a loan officer for Wells Fargo Bank in Orange County, CA. She transferred to Carmel, CA three years later which began a life-long love of the Monterey Peninsula. She rose to the level of manager of the Carmel Branch of First Interstate Bank. Mid-career she changed directions and became a real estate appraiser, establishing her successful business, Judith Brooke-Green Appraisal. She was appointed by the State Controller as Probate Referee of the Monterey County, a position she retained until her diagnosis.
Judy was an accomplished photographer, a hobby she learned from her father - a professional photographer. She was an avid amateur ski racer, competing with the Carmel Ski Club in Truckee, CA. She was well-known for her love of unique cats and red sports cars.
She married Michael Green in 1989. Together with him and his daughters Nicole and Kallista, she spent many years hiking, biking, camping and traveling in North and South America and Europe. With Michael, travels to Africa, China, Polynesia, Europe and Asia were treasured adventures and opportunities to explore the world’s vast cultures and gifts. They enjoyed the Monterey and New Orleans blues festivals, Monterey Jazz festivals, Symphony, Knights of the Vine events and other regional activities. Judy was a member and past President of the Carmel Soroptimist organization and helped launch their breast cancer fund-raising initiative.
Since Judy's diagnosis in late April, she and Michael have welcomed their daughter Nicole and son-in-law Ryan's new daughter Isabelle into this world in mid-July; celebrated her Dad's 90th birthday in late July and rejoiced in the marriage of daughter Kallista to Scott Boeckmann in early August. It was a very busy but cherished time with family.
Surviving family members include her husband, Michael, daughter Nicole (Ryan Arrington) of Newbury Park, CA, daughter Kallista (Scott Boeckman) of Sparks, MD, father Robert and mother Francis of Phoenix, AZ, sister Becky (Mack Wilberg) of Salt Lake City, UT, granddaughters (Nicole & Ryan) Katelyn and Isabelle.
