Christian Caldaroni, a son, grandson, nephew, cousin…my cousin, and friend took his own life on May 31st, 2005. Losing someone you love to suicide is extremely difficult leaving one in a state of mixed emotions, great sadness, confusion, and with many questions. Some of our family members found support from the wonderful Samaritans group - A SafePlace in Medford. The thoughtfulness and kindness of all the people involved in the organization have been a true blessing!! The Samaritans of Boston recently celebrated 30 years of dedication to reducing the risk of suicide through its life-saving programs, including 24-hour phone support for adults and teens, community outreach and education programs, and Safeplace, a peer-led, support group for people who have lost a loved one to suicide.

Our lives have been forever changed with the loss of my cousin Christian; he was someone who touched everyone’s life in some special way. He was a very loving, caring and giving individual. We know that it would make him very proud that we are trying to help save another individual’s life by participating in the race and raising awareness for suicide prevention. Our family is extremely dedicated to keeping Christian’s memory alive and helping spread awareness. I am very proud to say that on Saturday, October 3rd, 2009, we will be participating in our FIFTH 5k Race. Last year with the help of many generous individuals and businesses we were able to raise over $10,000 for the cause. We had 112 people participating on our team and we hope to have more this year!  We would love for anyone who can to join us this year in the race/walk this is also a child friendly event or make a pledge to Christian’s Team... large or small, every cent you donate will help. We appreciate all your support, with it we will keep Christian’s memory alive!
