To my Dear Friends,
First, thank you so much for taking the time to read about a grass roots initiative to raise money for the ongoing battle against Cancer. A cause that not only hits close to home for me, but one that almost everyone one can relate to at a personal level, through a friend or a family member. For me it was the death of both my younger sister Patty as well as my younger brother Gail, who both died in their early 40’s after their long and courageous struggles against Cancer. My involvement in their lives during that time still influences who I am today.
That is why I along with 11 other women, many with their own personal experiences and similar interest, have jumped at the challenge of being part of an “Adventure for the Cures”. This group, christened the “Dirty Dozen”, will embark on a 1500 mile off road cycle expedition from the Black Hills of South Dakota, through Wyoming and ending our trip in the Central Rocky Mountains of Colorado at the International Women’s Motorcycle Conference. We will be leaving our road bikes at home , riding dirt bikes cross country and camping in the outdoors.
My goal is to raise money to support the efforts of organizations such as the Gynecologic Cancer Foundation and the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation that seek to cure Ovarian and Breast Cancer. At the same time we hope to raise awareness of the need for women to receive routine checkups for a disease that will directly affect more than 1 out of every 10 women during their life time.
I will of course cover my own cost of this trip, but ask that you join me in this endeavor by sponsoring me and donating at whatever level you feel is appropriate in supporting this cause.
