Wendy was with me at the Walk 'n' Wag last year,, and she will be with me in spirit this year.  Shawnee is going to be my walking partner this time and will be in the Rescue Dog Parade if she can tolerate being that close to the other dogs; she has a lot of fans in GSRNE who will be rooting for her.

This event means so much to all of us who care about the German Shepherds in New England who have lost their homes through no fault of their own.  Many wind up in shelters because of a divorce, the death of an owner, financial problems in the family, foreclosure on the house, etc.  We talk with heartbroken owners who can no longer care for their dog and find some comfort in knowing the dog will be safe with GSRNE. 

UPDATE:  Sept. 13th, several of us from GSRNE manned a booth at the Pet Rock Fest on the grounds of Quinsigamond College, in Worcester.  It was a glorious day, with hundreds of people there, with their dogs or all breeds.  Animal Control Officers stopped by to get information about how to contact GSRNE when they have German Shepherds who have been family pets.  People asked for advice on training and health issues with their GSDs, others asked how they can volunteer and many just wanted to tell us about their current or previous Shepherds.  We introduced ourselves to vendors and invited them to our Walk 'n' Wag event, which is growing every year.  It was a great day for networking and for interacting with so many people who care about all animals!
