Dear Friends,
Just a few days until the Country Music half marathon and my participation on behalf of Gilda's Gang. I am training again with my good friend Karen Sprintz; and our team so far has raised over $110,000 to help serve the needs of individuals and families living with cancer. Wonderful and amazing!
In the few years since my sister’s death I have had the privilege to volunteer with Kid Support, a unique program at Gilda’s Club. This program was created to help the children of families in which a parent is living with cancer. In my role, I meet with the parents, many of who have a terminal diagnosis, and we talk candidly about how to help their children cope with the impact of cancer and illness in their young lives. I always leave touched by the profound resilience of the human spirit, the power of community in coping, grieving and healing; and the simple truth of how we all need each other to live fully in the face of loss.
This program has special meaning for me, as I witnessed the support that John, Christopher and Jonathan were able to receive from a similar program in NJ. I admire how John provided the space for his children to learn how to mourn and to grow after the death of their Mom. I am so grateful that they had a place to go after Enid’s death. John is an amazing Dad and my nephews are remarkable, fun and sensitive young men … the photo is of the three of them taken while we vacationed in Jamaica and welcomed in 2010. They are thriving, and as you all know, the boys are a source of joy and delight in my life.
Gilda’s Club offers so many programs and Kid Support is just one. If you are able I hope you will support my goal to make a difference in the lives of people and families impacted by cancer with a donation to Gilda's Club, Nashville.
