Lucious is a pastor in Kalimbira near the city of Lilongwe, Malawi.  In addition to pastoring a church in his community he is also a Zone Leader who is responsible for 15 Home-Based Care workers.  Lucious and his volunteers visit child-headed households, the elderly and those dying of HIV/AIDS every week -- providing any help they can.  Lucious owns a Bible, but has no resources to help him learn how to minister effectively to his church.  Recently a team from the USA came to the Lilongwe area to provide a week of training for rural and peri-urban pastors.  In order to attend the 6 days of training, Lucious got up at 5:00 am every morning and rode his bicycle for 3 hours so he could get picked up in a flatbed truck and driven another hour to the training.  By 3:00 pm he was again riding his bicycle for 3 hours to get home.

Dedicated pastors like Lucious need lots of encouragement to continue their ministry.  That is why we are excited by the fact that the Evangelical Alliance of Malawi is providing Pastoral Resource Kits to pastors in Malawi.  These kits contain 65 books and resources in the local language (Chichewa).  The cost of each kits is US$75 - which is a huge saving.

Somebody Cares works with more than 200 rural and peri-urban pastors in the Lilongwe, Malawi area.  They would like to provide Pastoral Resource Kits to at least 100 of their most faithful pastors -- men like Lucious.
