City of Grace has been working in Malawi for almost three years.  In Malawi our primary partners are Somebody Cares and Visionledd. These ministries all work with orphans and vulnerable children, widows, the elderly and those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.  With a per capita income of $180 a year, and with almost 2,000,000 orphans and vulnerable children out of a population of 13 million, the people of Malawi struggle to simply survive.  Our partners work with the poorest of the poor in more than 30 communities in this nation .

On April 2 we will be traveling to South Africa as part of a leadership team from City of Grace (our home church). In South Africa we will be participating in the Hands@Work International Conference. Visionledd and Somebody Cares are key members of the Hands@Work ministry network.  This conference will bring together African leaders from South Africa, Swaziland, Mozambique, Zambia, Malawi, Congo and Nigeria as well as international partner churches and organizations from Canada, the USA, Australia and the United Kingdom. The conference is not only an important part of learning about what God is doing in AIDS ministry in Africa, but also a time of developing strategy, building relationships and looking at long-term issues related to HIV/AIDS ministry in Africa in partnership with western churches.  As part of the Africa Leadership Team at City of Grace it is important for us to be part of these meetings and provide the input and perspective we have. 

On April 8 we will fly to Malawi in order to visit a number of projects City of Grace is supporting alongside Somebody Cares and Visionledd.  We will also continue our work of building the capacity, infrastructure and communication systems of these ministries and continue deepening our relationships with our African partners. Finally, we will be working on details for future trips that City of Grace teams will be doing in in 2008.

While City of Grace is helping to fund a portion of this trip, our goal is to raise at least 50% of the expenses necessary for us to go to Africa.
