Help Save KARL & others!
Earlier this summer, Karl Zaharia, 13, of Deer Park, NY was a typical 8th grader. In August he was given news that changed his life forever. Karl was diagnosed with (Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia) ALL. Now Karl spends his time undergoing chemotherapy treatment at Winthrop Hospital in Mineola. Sadly, Karl is in need of a bone marrow transplant and is relaying on the kindness of a stranger to find a match.
We are helping Karl find his way back to health by participating in a bone marrow drive. Thank you to all for joining us on Saturday, December 4th. You made a big difference when you registered yourself as a potential bone marrow donor for Karl. The more donors we can get on the registry, the greater our chance of finding Karl the match he so desperately needs! Getting tested is quick, easy and painless, and only involves swabbing the inside of the cheek for tissue typing!
"The disease has stopped me from doing some of the things I really enjoy, like karate and playing hockey with my brothers and friends. It makes me sad and mad that these things used to be so easy but now my treatments make me tired and weak." said Karl. "Please give me the chance to get better so that I can do all the fun things that I used to be able to do. Please come to my bone marrow drive."
The Bone Marrow Drive held on Saturday, December 4, 2010 was a GREAT success! Thank you to all that participated; volunteers and participants. Please continue to help!
