Dear family and friends,
Over the past 5 years, I have had the privilege of working for Citizen Schools. It is powerful work because our aim is to transform education and increase the number of poor urban students who graduate from high school ready for college or work. This is no small challenge but the people I have met with and worked with over the past 5 years give me a deep belief that it is possible.
I have met a 30 year veteran Principal in Albuquerque, New Mexico who had tears in her eyes when she talked about the needs of her students and what was possible with our help.
I have met a student in New Mexico who said that Citizen Schools grew the "crinkles in her brain" so she could succeed. Next year, she heads to high school as an A student.
I have met a young educator on at one of our Austin campuses who didn't accept that it was "not possible" and held her students to standards that are higher than I hold for my own girls!
Each of these people are part of the fabric of our work. The result has been more students who go to high school prepared and graduate from high school with a chance of going to college.
As my friends and family, I ask that you support our efforts. No donation is too large or too small. Each gets us one step closer to our goal of ensuring a high quality education for all students.
Your support - as always - means the world.
Kate
