Many of you know each year the zoo hosts a 5k. This will be my 3rd year participating. Early Dec 12, 2011 I lost my favorite giraffe, Binti, due to complications with labor. She was better known to the public as Savannah. Binti was her Swahili name meaning "daughter". I have decided to run in her memory for this race. Binti was a wonderful giraffe- nurturing, sweet and slow to trust people.  I am so thankful she allowed me into her tiny circle of people she approved of. She loved sweet potatoes cut into circles, peanut butter, honey locust pods and bamboo. I will miss her so so so much.
