Thank you for visiting my fundraising page and supporting me on behalf of Imerman Angels. I am getting active with the Angels … so no one faces cancer alone!
As most of you know, I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in December 2010. I went through chemotherapy and am now 1 year+ into remission (woo-hoo!) Now I'm doing great and feeling better than ever. But before I started treatment, I was unsure about my prognosis and TERRIFIED of chemo. I didn't know anyone who had been through this before and had no idea what to expect. A friend told me about Imerman Angels and I was "matched" with my Angel the night before my first chemo appointment. Within the first 30 minutes of receiving the "match" email, my Angel called me. She said, "when they told me you were starting chemo tomorrow, I figured I'd better call right away, because you must be FREAKING OUT!" --- YES!!! It was exactly what I needed - a conversation with someone who had been through it before. When I walked into my appointment the next day, I felt (at least a little bit) better. My Angel stayed in touch with me throughout treatment, checking in on me, recommending remedies to side effects, and giving advice on how to wear a face mask in public with confidence (ha!) The best part though was just having a happy, healthy woman to look to as proof that I could get through this. Now that I have, I want to give something back to Imerman Angels and make sure they can continue to send an Angel to anyone who needs one! My sister (and running buddy) Kristin and I are both running the Chicago Marathon on 07 October on behalf of Imerman Angels.
