Meet Fred....

Fred was born in a shelter in Kansas as his mother had been found stray, nearly starving and very pregnant.  We found Fred while looking through the Colorado Australian Shepherd Rescue site, as we were approaching the first anniversary of Nanak's passing and were feeling ready to open our hearts to new dog who needed a safe loving place to call home.

We were not planning to find a puppy, that is for sure!  But sure enough, Sydney delivered Fred and his two siblings, and all four dogs were moved to the Colorado Aussie Rescue program, as they have a better adoption rate than the shelter in Kansas does.

We fell in love with Fred the moment we saw his picture, and we were on a plane to Colorado (thanks Dad!!!) a week later to go get him and bring him home.  We bonded for three days in Boulder and Fred met some of his extended family there (our good friends the Yost-Mentzells, who helped us make the transition as smooth as it could be for Fred).  Fred flew home with us in a carry-on bag, at ten weeks old, and just nine pounds, he was so small and so sweet.  He did great with the flight and settled in quickly to a brand new life in Vermont...complete with his 19 year old, toothless feline big brother named Tom, who was a bit bigger than Fred when he first arrived.

We just celebrated Fred's first birthday in late April and we are nearing our first anniversary of coming together as a family.  He weighs nearly 60 lbs and towers over his brother Tom now.  They are still great friends and playmates; they even snuggle together!

We are learning a great deal about training and raising a puppy.....It's been an exciting road and we continue to learn more everyday.  Fred is the love of our lives now and we could not be more grateful for all of the wonderful blessings that brought us together almost one year ago today!

This year, as with every year, I will be walking in honor of Nanak's long and beautiful life and the very special time we shared together.  She was adopted from a shelter in Steamboat Colorado, and I will be forever grateful for our fourteen years together!   I will also be walking for Fred, his mom Sydney, his two brothers, and all the other dogs out there who are waiting for someone to come into their life and provide them the love and security they need.  Please join me in supporting the efforts of the Humane Society of Chittenden County by joining my team (Rescue Lovers) or donating to my fundraising page!  There are so many beautiful creatures in need, every bit of help counts...

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
