2011 Support-A-Walk for Breast and Ovarian Cancer
When my grilfriend, Isabel, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1990, there was no where for her to turn to find support from someone who had been through it. In 1996, I helped create Support Connection to change that. Since we opened our doors, we have offered support and hope to thousands of women and their families who are dealing with cancer. Support Connection is unique since all the counselors have had cancer. They've been there and they care. The services are free and confidential. Every day I see the difference support makes in helping someone cope with cancer. I am proud that we are celebrating 15 years of service this year.
I am reaching out to your for your support to insure that every person gets the help they need. Each year, we host an annual Support-A-Walk to increase awareness about breast and ovarian cancer and raise money for our support services. This year's Walk is on Sunday, October 2, 2011 at FDR Park in Yorktown Heights, NY. Please join me--even if you can't attend, I greatly appreciate your donation and help with spreading the word about the Walk.
As the Executive Director, I can give you my personal guarantee that your donation will go directly to fund our free peer counseling services, support groups, wellness and educational programs.
This year, I will also be remembering my dear mom, Mary. She was one of mine and Support Connection's greatest cheerleaders. From our very beginning, she encouraged me and always loved the Support-A-Walk. She proudly wore her Support-A-Walk t-shirt. Wherever we went, she would tell people about the Walk. I will miss her but can't help but smile every time I think of her.
