Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.Recently a friend of mine came to me with a project she was getting involved in and needed help. When she explained what the project was and why she became involved I was inspired to get actively involved also. My friend lost her boyfriend 6 years ago and the trauma she endured as a result inspired her to help raise $25K for Tomorrows Rainbow. I lost my parents in 1990 as a young woman and it literally took me 10 years to overcome my grief. Understanding the grief I went through as an adult made me ponder the pain children and teens must go through and the realization packed a punch. I immediately knew I had to get involved.
Tomorrow's Rainbow provides, free of charge, grief support to children, teens and their families. Through peer support groups, miniature horse interactions and therapeutic play, grieving children are guided through their own unique grief journey in a way that is meaningful to them. It is a place where they feel, often for the first time, understood.
Children supported in their grief are...
- 5 times less likely to complete suicide
- 9 times less likely to drop out if high school
- 10 times less likely to engage in substance abuse
- 20 times less likely to develop behavioral disorders
In order to reach more children, Tomorrows Rainbow needs to add a full time licensed clinician. HOPE FLOATS is about a group of dedicated volunteers that originated through a local Toastmasters club- Toast of Las Olas. They saw our struggle to keep up with the demand for services and wanted to help. That's how we at HOPE FLOATS project got started!
On March 31, 2012, we will launch a memorial flotilla of paper boats on the New River to honor the memory of those that are not longer with us while supporting the mission of Tomorrow's Rainbow. Your donation of any amount is greatly appreciated. In addition, memorial boats will be launched for all contributions of $25 or more. I would love for you to join me during the event, but if you're unavailable, I will launch your boat on your behalf. Here's the details:
HOPE FLOATS, Saturday, March 31, 2012
Esplanade Park on the Fort Lauderdale Riverfront
Free music by local bands followed by the HOPE FLOATS Memorial Flotilla
Save the date on your calendar. If you would like to donate anywhere from a dollar and up, it will be greatly appreciated or wait for the day and purchase a $25 paper boat.
Many thanks for your support.
