Dear Friends:

First of all, I want to thank you for visiting my fundraising page!  I want you to do two very simple things:

1.   If you have not already done so, please make a small $35.00 donation to the Riverkeeper because the Riverkeeper is making a large contribution to all of us by protecting our glorious Hudson River www.riverkeeper.org.   Believe me, if I can afford to give $35.00, YOU can afford it too!

2.   Next, please inspire 10 more people to follow by your example and make a similar modest gift.  E-mail them my link, see above, blame it on ME!

The reason this is so important is because Riverkeeper has taken on the battle against an alledged polluter right here in our little town.  This alledged polluter has been dumping toxic material into a stream called the North Peterskill.  This small tributary stream is considered to be very special, from an environmental point of view, because trout naturally spawn in it.  These types of trout streams are very rare and must be protected. For over 15 years, an alliance of local citizens have been struggling to stop this alledged polluter.

Several years ago, on a snowy January afternoon, Riverkeeper and representatives of the citizens group began to talk about how important it is to protect these pristine waters.  In a moment of perfect synergy, Riverkeeper decided to step in and help with our local need because pollution that occurs on small upstate creeks and streams impacts the water that thousands of people drink, fish from and use for recreation.

During the last couple of weeks, legal notifications have been served on the alleged polluter, with the NYS DEC and the United States EPA also being put on notice to demand that the laws, which we already have in place, finally be enforced.

Before the Riverkeeper became involved, the local group spent thousands of dollars desperately trying to save this and other streams and wetlands from destruction.  During the last few years, Riverkeeper has additionally spent tremendous amount of time, resources and money into trying to stop this pollution.

Mother Earth seems like a very high maintenance gal lately…….. But she is worth it!!!!

Now, we all need to align to help the Riverkeeper to continue on with this kind of high quality work.  Your modest donation, along with those of 10 of your friends, will allow Riverkeeper to continue to do what we all need them to do – Protect our Waters.
