The Godina family plans to celebrate Ellie's life with the 2nd Annual Walk 2 Cure PH, but they also want to raise both community awareness about Pulmonary Hypertension and funds to help find a cure. Last year’s walk raised $33,000.00 for the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA).
Ellie, daughter of Missy and Joe Godina, lost her battle with the disease in 2010 at the tender age of 2½. Ellie was diagnosed with Acute Pulmonary Hypertension and passed away two days later of right-sided heart failure. Doctors have suggested that Ellie had the disease for at least six months prior to diagnosis, but her symptoms were so vague, it was hard to diagnose. Ellie was a happy, loving child who loved her brother Joey, Pinky and her Binky.
Pulmonary Hypertension is an incurable disease that affects the lungs and eventually the heart. It causes the veins in the lungs to constrict becoming too narrow for normal blood flow from the heart to the lungs, creating high blood pressure in the arteries and stress on the heart. General treatment is oral medications and if that doesn't work, it's followed up with continuous IV medications all geared toward sustaining a patient's life until a lung and/or heart transplant can be performed.

10:45 a.m. Introductions and speeches
11:15 a.m. Walk begins (1 mile, or as health permits)
11:30 a.m. Raffle basket winners announced, closing
Please join our fight – with your participation, your sponsorship, or your donation. Event registration is $25.00. Children under 10 are free. You are encouraged to collect additional money in pledges. You must pre-register by March 17 to receive breakfast, a t-shirt and goody bag (up to 400 participants). Additional fundraisers will be taking place at the event, including Chinese raffle baskets. Hope to see you there!
