Hello Friends!
This June I will be participating in a race across the desert. Over the course of 6 days I will run 148 miles from Grand Junction, CO to Moab, UT along the Kokopelli Train. I know it sounds crazy, but I ask you to help me justify this crazy endeavor by sponsoring me. All money raised through this site will be donated to Project ADAM. Project ADAM (Automated Defibrillators in Adam’s Memory) is a foundation that helps educate K-12 schools’ staff and students in CPR and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) use in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest.
Schools are where people gather to learn, play, worship, work and live; a huge portion of our lives is spent in schools. Many people don’t realize that adults are not the only ones at risk for cardiac events. It is estimated that every year in the U.S. 1,000 young people have a sudden cardiac event. Cardiac events can be caused by structural/functional heart abnormalities, electrical disorders, and other factors such as illicit drugs and prescription medications. There is proof that if defibrillators are used within the first few minutes of a collapse, the survival rate can be as high as 70%. Without early defibrillation, the rate is 14%.
Project ADAM has been directly linked to 56 lives saved since the program started in 1999. I request your help so we can ensure more people have proper training and supplies when the next cardiac arrest occurs. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to my fundraising efforts. Many thanks for your support -- and please forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
