HERE'S THE STORY:
My cousin Evan is 13 years old. His mother, Kristie, died about two years ago because of this terrible disease. In reality, Evan has lived without a mother for over 10 years. When he was just a toddler his mother lost the ability to care for him, so my grandmother adopted him. Kristie's condition grew a lot worse over the years. The last time i saw her, she couldnt even hold herself up in her wheelchair. She couldnt eat or even use the bathroom on her own. She was in a nursing home at just 28 years old.
Kristie was one of the sweetest people i have ever known. She loved everybody and always put herself last. She wanted everything for her little boy and because of Huntingtons Disease, she wont even get to see his sixteeth birthday. She wont get to see him graduate or be there on his wedding day. She wont get to see her grandchildren or see how succesful her son will become. Kristie died on Easter Sunday 2008 about 20 minutes after she saw Evan for the last time.
For my 8th birthday she gave me one of the most special presents anyone could ever recieve. I looked inside a little barbie bag and saw a tiny box. Inside the box was a beautiful diamond ring. It was her wedding ring. She gave it to me and told me i was the closest thing to a daughter she would ever have. But the gift she gave me wasnt the ring. It was hope. Hope that someday i could change someones life like she changed mine. Hope that i could be someones angel, just like Kristie was mine.
