Thank you for visiting my Personal Fundraising Page! I'm excited to share with you that on March 18, 2012 I will be running a Half Marathon in NYC and fundraising for the Oranization for Autism Research (OAR)!
Those of you who know me well know that I'm always looking for a reason to go to NYC! However, this trip isn't about theatre, yoga, museums or staying out with friends and family until the wee hours of the morning (though I might try to squeeze some of that in!)... This time it's about my 2012 resolution to take care of myself so that I can be of service to others, and this is Project #1! I find that running is good for my physical and mental health (so that's the first part - me taking care of myself), and the second part (being of service to others) comes in by raising money for the Organization for Autism Research (OAR).
In my professional and personal life, I've been fortunate to meet some amazing people who experience Autism and they have each touched my heart in a different and profound way with their unique perspective, sense humor, intelligence, sensitivity and kindness. While this past year I've taken a break from my work in the developmental disabilities field, I'm still passionate about the importance of creating inclusive communities, and I wanted to find a new way to participate to help make that happen.
I'm excited about OAR because their work focuses on applied research to improve the quality of life for people with Autism. There are a lot of good people out there doing a lot of good work on behalf of people with developmental disabilities. And yet, there's a lot left to do so that people with Autism and their families have access to high quality education, employment and housing opportunities.
Of course it costs money to do that work, and as government funding diminishes, private contributions are needed more than ever.
I've never done this before, and I'll be honest- it makes me a little uncomfortable to ask people for money. However, this is so important to me that I'm pushing through that uneasy feeling (gulp) and asking you to please help me raise money for OAR and help them continue to do the good work.
Thank you so much for any amount that you are able to contribute!
As an added incentive:
*If you contribute $25 or more, you will get a small gift made by me!
*Who ever gives the most will get a blanket crocheted by my mom!
PS- Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to my fundraising efforts. Please forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too, and again, thank you for your support!
