As you know, I am the Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Laurel Region, and I can't say enough about the amazing services we provide to at-risk youth in Westmoreland and Fayette Counties!  In 2011, we were able to support 612 children in one-to-one mentoring relationships with caring adult volunteers.  Through these relationships, our "Littles" are able to experience positive improvements in critical key areas of their life such as social acceptance, scholastic competency, educational expectations, grades, risk attitudes, truancy, and parental trust.  Being able to see the changes in these children and talk to them about their lives is so personally rewarding to me.  Even more rewarding though, is that all of the work that is done with these children is done by VOLUNTEERS, "Bigs."  Our special gang of Bigs give so freely of themselves and are always willing to go the extra mile for their Littles.
