As many of you know, last year I put together a team know as Bill's Believers with the help of my cousin Nick, in honor of my dad and my hero, Bill Dwyer. My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 Esophageal Cancer in late October of 2007. He battled this disease like a prize fighter, never giving up through his extremely aggressive treatment. Because of the help, love, and prayers of his family, friends, doctors, etc., my dad walked more than 3 miles last year with his team, 43 people strong, feeling great and well on his way to recovery. He walked over that finish line a winner as tears of joy fell from our cheeks and we chanted his name, "Bill, Bill, Bill...." HE WAS A SURVIVOR and I was never more proud of him in my entire life!
As we all know, life is anything but certain... Three months later (September 2008), I lost my dad but not to cancer. He BEAT That! He past away from Pulmonary Fibrosis. Needless to say my mother, sister and I reached out to our family and friends for the love and support needed to get thru this horrific time. We are so blessed and thankful to be surrounded by such loving, caring and strong individuals.
Not too long ago I received a copy of a DVD from the NSMC Cancer walk form last year where my Mom & Dad spoke so beautifully about how much this walk meant to both of them. To be able to help others in similar situations, who may not have any support system to help them fight this unbearable disease and how they were doing this for all of them as well as themselves. They also said that they would be back next year! SO never did I think a year ago I would be doing this walk in memory of my HERO but those are the cards I was dealt and so it is!
I am personally walking for my father who can't be here with us physically but I know he will be in each one of our hearts as we cross that finish line again this year. The tears will be tears of a different kind but as a "Team" we will honor the Memory of my dad as he so deserves it.
The Gray family is hitting the streets AGAIN on June 21st to raise money for this worthy cause! So what do you think? Do you want to be part of the team? Can you help support this cause? Either way we appreciate all that you can do. Last year we raised over $7,000.00 as a team and are trying to at least match that!
Unfortunately we probably all know someone who has suffered from or is suffering from Cancer. Let's help raise money to FIND A CURE! I know where I will be on Father's day. How about you?
