Please join us in this crusade to promote and support an organization that is out for a greater good...Northeast Passage. An organization and crew that I like to refer to as "life's angels". This wll be my second NEP Three Notch Century ride that is coming up the weekend of September 11th to 13th.
The Three Notch Century is a fund raising event that will challenge cyclists to conquer 100 miles in one, two or three days. Handcyclists and bicyclists can choose the number of days that matches their ability level and desired challenge. The routes are the same…taking participants on a challenging and scenic ride through the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
I participated in the 3 day ride last year along with my cousin John "Eric" Engstrom. I on my bicycle and he on his handcycle. He's my hero amidst heroes! We plan to conquer the same challenge again this year.
The main reason that we're riding is to help raise funds to benefit NEP (Northeast Passage) and the quality of life that their programs strive for. All raised money will allow NEP to continue their mission and offer quality programming and equipment for individuals with disabilities. These experiences can offer the individuals the opportunity to learn how to stay active and healthy, and allow them to explore their potential.
Words simply cannot capture or relay the experience of the weekend event that I encountered last year. With meeting so many incredible people..."life's angels"... that incuded NEP staff, riders, volunteers and their rooting supporters. Throughout both the course of the route and the course of the event's festivities. We cycled along some of NH's most spectacular, breathtaking and scenic roads...as well as fun and challenging with it's roller coaster type terrain!
And the camaraderie throughout the weekend...powerful...contagious...inspirational! As demonstrated in the photo that I've included on this fundraising page. That particular photo was taken during the close of last years's event...Sunday's post ride celebration. My cousin Eric is pictured in the front row...furthest to the right...in the green shirt. And I'm in the back row...furthest to the left...in the maroon colored top. The rest of the spirited crew appearing with us are some of those "life's angels" that I keep mentioning...just a few of the NEP staff and many fellow riders. And of who I feel that we are truly blessed in having come to know and befriend during that incredible weekend!
Eric and I have been getting together for some training rides to prepare for the upcoming 3 day challenge. Looking forward to knocking our way over those notches and cranking the Kank with my dear cuz once again!
