Dear Friends and Family!
I am excited to be participating in a Dance Marathon with my friends at Markham Place Middle School on January 13th.
We are raising awareness and important research money to benefit the Make Some Noise: Cure Kids Cancer Foundation. Please consider sponsoring me in the dance marathon to help me make a difference!
WHY: Pediatric cancer is not as rare as people think it is! Six kids at my school have fought cancer in the past six years, and in our local surrounding area, there are currently 20 kids fighting cancer. 1 in every 320 kids is diagnosed with cancer, but childhood cancer only sees 3% of the research funding. We want to help Make Some Noise!
Jack: In November of 2006 Jack McLoone, a healthy Markham Place 4th grader and baseball player, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Jack is currently in remission, though still working through side effects from the chemo. He was our Student Council President last year and is a freshman at Redbank Regional High School. He hopes to be able to play baseball again!
Lilly: In May of 2009, Lilly Daneman, who was a healthy, athletic 4th grader at Point Road School began experiencing leg pain and a limp, it was a kid’s bone tumor called Ewing’s Sarcoma. Lilly received eight months of chemotherapy and surgery to save her leg through the insertion a titanium rod to replace her femur. She is currently a 7th grader at Markham Place School, participating in Student Council and minimal sports activity with enthusiasm and a zest for life. Lilly, who is in remission will receive follow-up testing for recurrence, growth issues for 10 years and her prosthetic implant the rest of her life.
Malcolm: In August of 2009, Lilly was at the hospital for her limb salvage surgery when she met Malcolm Sutherland–Foggio, another NJ kid who also battled Ewing’s Sarcoma. Malcolm told Lilly that he was starting the Make Some Noise: Cure Kids Cancer Foundation to raise desperately needed research funds and Make Some Noise about kids’ cancers. Lilly joined Malcolm’s Junior Board. Make Some Noise is now just over 2 years old, was selected as a Top 3 Finalist for “Best New Charity” for 2011 in the Classy Awards in San Diego, has corporate headquarters in NJ, and has Chapters starting in other states!
