Kelly Singleton's Fundraising Page
With its roots stemming from an animal rescue at the Lancaster Stockyards in 1986, Farm Sanctuary holds a special place in my heart. A vegan for 3 1/2 years, my first visit to the NY location in May 2008 solidified my commitment to raising awareness of the truth behind the scenes of factory farming and its effects on people and the environment. Each year, hundreds of neglected and abused farm animals are rescued from inhumane conditions, and although many are placed in life-long homes, most have a permanent home at Farm Sanctuary where they receive shelter, plenty of food, proper medical care and lots of love.
Even if you are not vegan or vegetarian, this is an important organization to support. Farm Sanctuary works hard to pass laws such as prohibiting the use of downed animals (animals that are too sick to walk or stand, but often end up up at your grocery store anyway). Eating downed animals puts you at a higher risk for E. Coli, salmonella and mad cow disease. Farm Sanctuary also works to enact laws so farm animals are given humane living conditions before going to slaughter.
Whether $5, $20 or more, your donation will help to make a difference in the lives of the animals, and depending on your dietary choices, it will also make a difference with the safety of the food that is on your dinner table.
Please note that a $20 donation entitles you to a one year Farm Sanctuary membership and a subscription to "Sanctuary," Farm Sanctuary's compassionate quarterly newsletter.
