Hi Everyone!

 

     My name is Kelsey and I have been volunteering at Phoenix Children's Hospital for over a year now in the first floor playroom and it is one of the best experiences of my life. The hospital, staff, and most of all the children, have all touched my heart in a very special way and because of them I'm going to be running in the P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Marathon on January 17th! Don't think I'm too crazy, I'm only running the half, but I am extremely excited to be doing it for PCH!  

    I began training with the miracles in motion team on August 15th with our first weekly group run at kiwanis park. I have also been training on my own in and out of the gym, I will be sure to keep everyone updated on my progress! So far I am up to seven miles for my long effort runs with no problem I'm going to push for eight this week!

       I will also be running in honor of a PCH patient and her name is Heaven. Here is her story (written by her mother Karen): 

      Heaven was diagnosed with Burkitts Leukemia in 2006. She stayed at Phoenix Children's Hospital for 6 months straight with out going home. She was in ICCU for 1 month due to her port getting infected. Heaven was released from PCH in March of 2007 and she was cancer free! Thanks to PCH, Dr. Henry, all the staff at PCH for giving Heaven hope, love, and prayers. That is what PCH means to us. Heaven has been cancer free for 2 years. Thank you Jesus and PCH!!!

     I got a chance to meet Heaven at our Dave and Busters kick-off party on September 19th and what an amazing little girl! She has so much energy and is so bright and outgoing, I would've never guess in a million years that at one point she struggled with cancer. I truly admire her and her family for everything that they have been through and how strong they are. Heaven will keep me motivated throughout the next six months of grueling training and be the little voice in my head saying, "get out of bed", for those early morning runs!
