Court Appointed Special Advocate of Humboldt

CASA Kid Walk Eureeka,  California

CASA-KATEERS' Fundraising Page

Thanks for visiting the CASA-KATEERS' Team page!

(Kelsie, Sophie, Summer, and Carrie)

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) recruits, trains, and supports community volunteers who are advocating for abused and neglected children. When children are removed from abusive homes, they have lawyers, social workers, and foster parents who all have several cases and kids competing for their time and attention. In an overburdened and broken system, many abused children fall through the cracks and never have a chance to recover from the trauma they have lived through. A CASA gets to focus on just one child, making sure they get everything they need to live happy, healthy and secure lives.

Unfortunately, there aren't enough CASAs for all the children who need one. Only about half of the children who need a CASA actually get a CASA. So we are raising money and awareness! The CASA Kid Walk has teams competing to raise money for CASA. Then, on October 10th we will be doing a 2k walk, followed by a one mile "Champions for Children" march to raise awareness about child abuse and CASA's role in helping abused children.

Our team, the CASA-KATEERS ("M-I-C, K-E-Y..." get it? ) has been holding weekly bake sales, a raffle, and other events to raise money; but if you could spare just a little, please donate it to us so we might be able to reach our goal of raising $1,000 (the amount it costs to provide one child with a CASA for one year).

Kelsie and Carrie are already involved with the foster system, while Summer and Sophie are quickly learning more about it.

Kelsie went though the 5 week training program in October '07, and has been a CASA for "Jenny," a wonderful 15 year old girl, since February '08. Jenny has moved eight times (three since Kelsie has known her) since entering the child welfare system when she was 11. She has repeatedly changed schools, and dealt with trying to find an adoptive home after her siblings were adopted by separate families. She and Kelsie really enjoy their time together, and it gives Jenny the one-on-one time she desperately craves.  Kelsie is also on the Kid Walk Committee, mentoring other teams through the 2009 Kid Walk season.

Carrie went through CASA training after participating in last years Kid Walk. She also works full time doing therapeutic behavioral services for children in foster care.

CASA volunteers fill a huge void that the child welfare system is unable to manage. Help expand the training schedule, grow the advocate support system, and increase the volunteer advocate pool. Any amount helps and would be greatly appreciated!

We're sure you're asked to support many worthy causes, so  thank you for considering this one!  Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support our fundraising efforts.

If you don't feel comfortable donating online, you can send a check with "CASA-KATEERS" in the memo to:
