Ken will be so missed by his family, friends and the medical community. Through his actions and his words, he left us a challenge to continue the fight against Pancreatic Cancer.  Ken was open about his fight and spoke at a number of community and fundraising events.  We have captured some of his key messages below.

Thank you for joining the fight against Pancreatic Cancer!

"This beast is deadly. It is the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths in this country, but accounts for only 2.5% of new cancer diagnoses.  About 5% survive five years from the time of their diagnosis. This means each year there are about 42,000 new fighters facing this battle, and about 35,000 will die fighting. This is why we are all here—to help fund research to find new treatments that are more effective, and to find ways to discover the cancer at an earlier stage.  I believe advancements in biotechnology will find novel ways to attack this problem in the near future. We need to spread awareness of just how dangerous this disease is, and try to spare people in the future from facing this beast. "

"... as you consider possible causes to support, please give thought to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PANCAN).  This year a new regimen for treating metastatic pancreatic cancer showed some survival benefit in a cancer that has not seen improvement in decades.  I believe other breakthroughs are possible within less than a decade if enough resources can be directed toward pancreatic cancer research.  There are so many points at which differences in lives could be made -- from earlier detection and better screening; better detection in follow-up; better genetic determination of which tumors are likely to recur, etc.  We are aware of the amazing advances made in treating breast cancer and HIV, because of the huge resources directed toward those problems.  For the sake of future Pancreatic Cancer patients, I ask for your consideration and support of PanCan."

"I have witnessed and been the object of amazing kindness and compassion, and have felt the warmth, power, and love of people's prayers. I have experienced what I believe is the very best of humanity, from everyday people, for an everyday guy like me. ... The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, or PanCan, is the national organization that helps raise awareness, funds research, and supports activities that help patients with pancreatic cancer. It's very easy to go to the internet and Google pancreatic cancer and find statistics that are challenging. But, that means there's a lot of room for improvement and we need your help."

Dr. Kenneth Lee passed from Pancreatic Cancer on January 4th, 2011
