Thank you for visiting my fundraising page (a continuation from www.firstgiving.com/kerrychu)! ***See my post-race notes below.
I made it! I got into NYC and I am running to raise awareness and funds for Chiari & Syringomyelia!!!
As most of you already know, I had brain surgery in November 2004 for a genetic disorder called Chiari malformation.
Since then I have become active in the non-profit called the American Syringomyelia & Chiari Alliance Project. Last summer I started a local support group on Long Island.
This will be my FIFTH MARATHON and I am doing it in honor of my fellow support group members and all those that suffer the devastating effects of Chiari and Syringomyelia.
Please help me help all of us fund research, education and support by making a donation here. Your prayers and support are greatly appreciated!
Note - I am still running my fourth marathon on October 9th in Hartford but decided to change my fundraising event to NYC considering the locale to my fellow Chiarians in New York. All money raised for Hartford has been transferred to this event.
***Post-Race Notes: I did it! I ran the NYC Marathon in 3 hours, 46 minutes and 14 seconds AND with all your help, surpassed my fundraising goal of $5,000!!! The day was filled with many emotions - nervousness, excitement, anticipation, determination and joy. I started off strong but then started to have some stomach troubles in the middle. Seeing my fellow support group members, friends and family at mile 16 along 1st Avenue kept me going. Around mile 20, I started to feel better and was able to finish strong. I will post a new picture shortly. Also, this page will remain active until 1/7/11 so for anyone who hasn't donated and wishes to, there is still time:) All my love, Kerry
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
