I will be participating in the Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics. I will be taking a plunge in Shawnee Mission Park Lake on January 30th 2010. I will be swimming with other area Scout Leaders.
WE are doing this for two reasons:
1) This is a fundraiser for the Special Olympics and we support athletics in all forms ...especially the Special Olympics and know several participants that look forward to competing all year. They train, compete, make new friends and have a great time.
2) The other reason is that We have joined with some other Scout Leaders to do this activity as an object lesson for our Scouts. We ask them to make a difference. To fund raise and do service projects etc and we want to show them that we adults do these things too and that a small sacrifice i.e. jumping into a freezing cold lake in January can make a big difference for someone else.
