Dear Family and Friends,
First of all, thank you, thank you for your support. I cannot believe this will be my sixth year riding and that together we've raised almost $30,000. It's that time of year again and the summer is really starting to heat up...hopefully I won't melt. I need your help now more than ever. Although we're getting closer we still haven't cured this damn thing. And you know as well as I do that we can shed all the tears we want for our family and friends, but the best thing we can do right now is send a check and pray to God that these ‘miracle workers’ come up with a cure.
As many of you know about eight years ago my father-in-law and best friend Paul McMahon was diagnosed with lung cancer. It may have temporarily taken the spring out of his step but it certainly didn't take the twinkle from his eye, and the never ending work ethic from his body. He's out in the yard every day running the bobcat/backhoe, or he’s teaching me a better way to build, fix, or deal with any kind of situation. I’ll say it again, he's the smartest guy I know!! and I thank God that he is healthy today.
Paul is a survivor because of you and the Dana-Faber Cancer Institute. He continues to fight and his checkups are going good. I will again ride my bike 192 miles in the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge during the first weekend in August to raise money for cancer research. I am in need of sponsors and am asking for your support. The PMC is the single largest contributor to the Jimmy Fund at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Most of us know someone who's been affected in some way and we pray that it doesn't touch us too close. You probably have someone's struggle weighing on your heart too.
Last year with your help we raised $6,300. Our friends and family have taken this challenge seriously and I hope you want to continue to be a part of the cure as well. I will train and do the hard work. All I ask from you is a check. Please consider donating the cost of a nice dinner out. If you can dedicate twenty-five or fifty dollars to helping find a cure, you will be in good company. Any donation will be appreciated.
This year I am riding on the Boston Bruins riding team, (I met a couple of former Bruins players last year during the ride and they asked me to join their team) and because of that they've asked us to collect donations online here on FirstGiving and that checks be made out to the “Boston Bruins Foundation”. This is so that the Bruins Foundation can then make a check presentation to the PMC/Dana-Faber at one of the games this year on the ice. This does not change a thing about where the money goes, 100% of the money collected goes to Dana-Faber Cancer Institute. When you go to donate you do not have to check the box to pay for the fees associated with using FirstGiving, as the Bruins Foundation is covering any fees.
In addition to the picture I wear on my back every year of Paul with the caption ‘Thank you Dana Faber’, I’ll be adding a picture of my friend/boss Mike Kennedy that says: ‘Pray for Mike he’s going through some tough treatments right now’.
Thank you so much for helping.
