Greetings, friends!
On Saturday, April 21, I’ll be biking 20 miles to support The Nature Conservancy's work on Long Island Sound. I just moved to Connecticut a year ago and I am still in discovery mode! I live close to the Sound and having been a sailor for many years I enjoy it very much!
Did you know this narrow stretch of ocean along Connecticut’s coast brings $8.91 billion to the local economy and houses more than 21 million people within 50 miles of its shore? Not long ago, pollution made many people fearful of swimming in the Sound or eating its fish. Today, water quality has improved, but new challenges loom. Stronger, more frequent storms and sea-level rise threaten coastal communities; sea grasses are disappearing; and shipping, recreation and energy uses are increasing.
The Nature Conservancy is combating these pressures in Connecticut by working to preserve coastal habitats; restore marine ecosystems; and map fish and other ocean life to pinpoint compatible areas for different activities.
I’m riding on Earth Day weekend because I want to build on the progress that the Conservancy and others have made in rescuing Long Island Sound. Please consider making a donation. And please join us at the end of the ride for a Picnic for the Planet to celebrate the role the Sound and all our lands and waters play in feeding us! I know I will have worked up a good appetite!
Thanks to the generosity of our team captain, all donations to Team Nature Conservancy Rocks! will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $10,000. Donate today and have twice the impact!
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
Thank you for supporting my Rock to Rock ride!
Kevin
