WOW!!!! THANK YOU to all our family & friends who supported Ronald McDonald House Charities and helped us reach our goal (& beyond) of $2,015 to pay for one family's stay at the House for a month. YES, we did it, and YES, you can still donate! It's never too late to help this wonderful cause. (The cost for each family for one night is $65, so please consider that amount when making your donation!)
We have our cookie recipe ready to go for the Battle! Our Sweet 'n Salty cookies are addictive (as in I need to lose those 3 pounds I gained from all the taste tests)--a scrumptious blend of chocolate chips, caramel bits & pretzels--and all the reviews have been fantastic! Amelia is sure we have a shot at winning the cookie division this year.
Last year we raised $1,666 (the picture is Amelia celebrating with Ronald). Our friends' and family's gifts ranged from $10 to $200--all those $10, $20, & $25 donations really added up and made a huge difference to many families whose loved ones were hospitalized this past year. Our own experience years ago with Mark being in the hospital inspired us to help Ronald McDonald House a year ago.
Since then, Mark, Davis, Amelia & I have volunteered every 6th Sunday to cook dinner for the guest families staying at the House. It's been a great experience for us--making a meal from scratch for 25 people in an hour is a fun challenge that we've mastered, and sitting down to have dinner with the families who are willing to share their concerns and joys with us is truly meaningful. On Christmas Eve morning, we made breakfast at the House for the guests and enjoyed their company as much as we savored the real bacon and homemade granola bars that we'd never make for ourselves at home. This year our inspiration to help Ronald McDonald House comes from the families who are currently there, waiting for good news that will send healthy babies home to thrive.
