2011 Vital Alliance Donate Life Run Walk
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Thank You for visiting my 2011 Vital Alliance Run/Walk fundraising page. This event is very important to me and very personal.
This October will mark my 17th month on the Liver Transplant waiting list. I was diagnosed with Budd-Chiari Syndrome, a rare liver disease, in 2008. At the time I was pregnant with my youngest son. I was told right away that I would eventually need a liver transplant but I wasn't listed until 2010 when it became apparent to my doctors that I was slowly entering the world of liver failure. Right now I am stable. I take my medication and follow my doctors orders. But I have been told not to get comfortable because things could get worse very fast. I was also told that when I do get sick, I will get very sick. I will not let this get the best of me.
I am not just a liver patient. I am a wife. And a mother to 2 amazing little boys. My family is my life. The reason I get up every morning. My reason for smiling though the pain and laughing though the tears. I have been blessed with such an amazing bunch of family and friends who support me and always encourage me to keep on fighting. Its been a hard but very humbling road.
The number of people on the waiting list is creeping up on the 112,000 mark. And every day on average 18 people die waiting for an organ. Something so simple as taking a few minuets to register as a donor, could save up to 8 lives and enhance the lives of many others. I didn't know much about organ donation until I found myself needing one. And now I'm just trying to share my story and encourage others to register too. Be a hero, Be an organ donor!
