Give Up Something You Love For One Month
Update: April 17, 2007
Hello All...
I would like to dedicate this page in memory of my grandmother's husband Richard.
On Good Friday my Mom & I went to Dana Farber to see Dr. Kulke, a scientist/doctor who specializes in carcinoid. My questions were few, yet held a great deal of weight on my mind.
#1: Carcinoid syndrome occurs in those who have a tumor in their liver. I was told after surgery in May 2004, that I had carcinoid syndrome and it's symptoms. YET...I did not have a tumor on my liver, just a hemangioma (which is a benign tumor). Dr. Kulke explained that hemangiomas and carcinoids look alike, so that is why they are keeping a close eye on it. However, it is puzzling that all my blood tests are normal, yet my irritating symptoms continue. So it seems at this point that I have no carcinoid and am thankful for this.
#2: My other question was about my Grampie Bob's cancer. He and I had neuroendocrine tumors which are in the same cancer family. His tumors were in his pancreas, mine in the colon. A concern of mine was that we had a genetic disorder, yet it seems this is so rare it doesn't seem to be possible. I was entered into a study at Dana Farber and look forward to possibly being able to help others in the future.
Again, I am grateful for your love, support, prayers and generosity.
All My Love & Thanks...Kim
