Subject: Derech Shalem
Please stop all fund-raising efforts for Derech Shalem. They have not received any substantial donations other than ours. They have debts, but are not really open for business. They still have the animals and one or two kids . . . Avshalom (Derech Shalem’s Director) . . . is hoping that a group in the north will agree to give shelter to the farm and cover expenses and then he will move there. That is his only hope for now. IN any case, therefore, Derech Shalem will not be functioning where it is and will no longer be in Samaria. Frankly, I think it will close.
I suggest that we use the donations that have come in to me until now to help him pay his debts.
Shalom,
Sondra Oster Baras, Director, Israel Office of CFOIC Heartland

Derech Shalem Farm UPDATE
August 2008 Deadline!
Together we have kept this unique youth village, for runaway boys, from having to close their program down, but without the remaining $50,000 to become current, before the End of this August, Derech Shalem will have to close their doors.
To date, they are now down to only two of their original 12 boys, having only raised just $4,000 so far this year. With what seems like very little hope, there is one man, Avshalom Ladani, the Director of the program, who continues to hold out hope that the vision he has for these boys, to mentor them to faith and future leadership development, will be realized through individuals and groups like Christian Friends of Israeli Communities (CFOIC).
We at CFOIC are therefore asking that you, your church families, and communities help answer this seemingly insurmountable need, in addition to prayerfully considering coming along side this much needed program and reach out to these boys through either an ongoing monthly/annual commitment, and see this incredible Vision revitalized.
If we have 375 of you give a one-time gift of $100, 15 of you give a one-time gift of $500, and five of you give a one-time gift of $1,000 we can together Save Derech Shalem, we can Save these Boys. Please give what you can today and share these Boys’ story with others . . .
The Cry for Help from Derech Shalem
Our supporters heard the cry for help from Derech Shalem in December 2007, and responded in a big way. With the donations we received they were able to pay their utility bills, buy food for the children and the animals of the farm, and prevent their program from closing its doors.
"I want to thank you with all my heart for the vital contribution that you sent us recently, which really saved us!"
Avshalom Ladani, Director of Farm
Unfortunately, their need is not over yet. The Israel Ministry of Social Services has promised to start funding the Farm in mid-2008, this funding was promised in 2007, but never materialized. First they must find their own funding, for the next two months.
"If we can't keep going during these next months, all will be lost. Your continued support for that period of time is crucial - I have no one else to turn to who can help us in this immediate way." Avshalom Ladani, Director of Farm
Their request is for help is to provide the minimum monthly budget they need for the next couple months, a total of $54,000. They have had to cut their staff drastically, limiting their ability to receive additional boys.
"'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these, you did for me.'" Matthew 25:34-40
